Our verdict: 6/10
If you are over 50 and want a daily eye supplement with lutein and zeaxanthin at the amounts used in the NIH’s AREDS2 study, Advanced Vision Formula is a transparent option: two tablets give 10 mg of lutein and 3 mg of zeaxanthin plus 13 other nutrients, all with printed doses and no proprietary blend. It comes from Advanced Bionutritionals, a company with a U.S. address, it is a one time purchase, and the 90 day guarantee accepts empty bottles. Keep expectations realistic: it is not the full AREDS2 formula, and some sales page promises go well beyond the evidence.
A good fit if you
- Are over 50 and want lutein and zeaxanthin at the AREDS2 amounts
- Prefer one product with every dose printed
- Want a one time purchase with a 90 day guarantee
Not for you if you
- Have macular degeneration: ask your eye doctor about the full AREDS2 formula
- Take blood thinners or are pregnant (it contains ginkgo)
- Expect to stop wearing glasses
Good to know: ginkgo and beta carotene
Mayo Clinic says ginkgo might raise the risk of bleeding, especially with blood thinners or ibuprofen, and advises against it for people who are older, have a bleeding condition or are pregnant. If you are over 65 or take any blood thinner, ask your doctor before starting. The vitamin A comes from mixed carotenoids that include beta carotene; in the NIH’s AREDS research, 15 mg of beta carotene nearly doubled lung cancer risk in people who had ever smoked. The label does not say how much beta carotene this formula has, so if you smoke or used to, ask your doctor first.
Advanced Vision Formula is sold to adults with tired eyes, eye strain and trouble seeing at night. We read the official sales page, the Supplement Facts label and the guarantee, and checked the ingredients against the National Institutes of Health and Mayo Clinic. We did not buy or test the product.

What the Research Says
Lutein and zeaxanthin. In the NIH’s AREDS2 study of people with age related macular degeneration, a formula with 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin replaced beta carotene. After 10 years, people first assigned to lutein and zeaxanthin had a 20% lower risk of progressing to late macular degeneration than the beta carotene group. This product matches those lutein and zeaxanthin amounts. Our lutein and zeaxanthin guide explains who benefits.
But it is not the AREDS2 formula. AREDS2 kept the original AREDS nutrients: 500 mg of vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E, 80 mg of zinc and 2 mg of copper. Advanced Vision Formula has 240 mg of vitamin C, 15 mg of zinc, and no vitamin E or copper. The AREDS research was also done in people who already had macular degeneration.
Bilberry. The NIH says the most rigorous studies have not found bilberry effective for night vision in healthy people, and that it has not been clearly shown to help any health condition.
We found no study of Advanced Vision Formula itself. The honest summary: the lutein and zeaxanthin part is well chosen, while most other ingredients have little or no eye research behind them in our sources.
The Sales Page Claims
The page says bilberry helps improve night vision, which conflicts with the NIH summary, and that ginkgo “helps improve your eyesight”. Several testimonials describe no longer needing glasses, which no supplement study we found supports. The guarantee text also promises “a change in your appetite, energy, and control over cravings”, wording that appears to be copied from a weight loss product. On the plus side, the label is complete and the review section shows a realistic range of opinions.

Guarantee and Refund Terms

Is Advanced Vision Formula Safe?
Ginkgo. Mayo Clinic says ginkgo seems safe for most healthy adults in typical amounts but might raise the risk of bleeding, especially with blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs or ibuprofen. It advises stopping ginkgo two weeks before surgery and not taking it if you are older, pregnant or have a bleeding condition. Large amounts may raise seizure risk in people with epilepsy.
Beta carotene. In the NIH’s AREDS research, 15 mg of beta carotene nearly doubled lung cancer risk in people who had ever smoked. This formula contains some beta carotene as part of its vitamin A, in an amount the label does not specify. If you smoke or used to, talk to your doctor.
Bilberry and medicines. The NIH considers bilberry fruit extract well tolerated in studies, and advises talking to your doctor before using herbal products if you take any medicine.

Final Verdict: 6/10
Advanced Vision Formula is a transparent eye supplement from a company that prints every dose and accepts empty bottles for a refund. If you are over 50 and want lutein and zeaxanthin at the AREDS2 amounts in one daily product, it is a reasonable one to try. It stops short of a higher score because it is not the full AREDS2 formula, several sales page claims are not supported, ginkgo needs care with blood thinners, and the beta carotene amount is not stated.
